چکیده

The hydrocarbons in extractable lipids of haemolymph from healthy and diseased larvae of the Japanese beetle (Popillia japoniea) have been characterized. Haemolymph contains at least 21 saturated hydrocarbons having from 21 to 27 carbon atoms. Normal, monomethyl-branched, and dimethylbranched alkanes with even and odd carbon numbers were identified. Tricosane (12%), ll-methyltricosane (19%), 9,13-dimethyltricosane (27%), and 11-methylpentacosane (11 %) are the major hydrocarbons. Haemolymph from third instar larvae contains at least six minor hydrocarbons that could riot be obtained in sufficient quantities for structure identification. The total amount of hydrocarbons per ml is reduced in haemolymph from larvae infected with Bacillus popilliae; however, the relative concentration of each hydrocarbon is not significantly changed as a result of infection.

The effects of host plants on the feeding indices and chemical activities of elm leaf beetle, Xanthogaleruca luteola (Muller) (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae)

ABSTRACT- Elm leaf beetle (ELB), Xanthoga leruca luteola (Muller), is considered as one of the most important and destructive phytophagous pests of Ulmus species in the north of Iran. In the current study, the effects of three host plants including Ulmus carpinifolia, U. carpinifolia var. umbraculifera, and Zelkova carpinifolia, on feeding indices and biochemical processes of ELB were examined ...

Detection of Paenibacillus larvae larvae spores in honey and diseased larvae Samples by culture and PCR

American foulbrood (AFB) is the most serious brood disease of the honey bee. Traditional methods are reliable but rather slow simply because they are based on biochemical, morphological and physiological identification of cultivated isolates. The aim of this study is the detection of Paenibacillus larvae larvae spores in honey and diseased larvae samples by culture and PCR. Therefore 54 samp...

Fungi Isolated from Pine Wood Nematode, Its Vector Japanese Pine Sawyer, and the Nematode-Infected Japanese Black Pine Wood in Korea

Pine tree death caused by pine wood nematode (PWN) involves phoretic relationships between PWN and its vector Japanese pine sawyer beetle (JPS). In an effort to understand the diversity of fungi involved in PWN life cycle, a total of 176 fungal isolates were collected from PWNs, adults and larvae of JPS, PWN-diseased Japanese black pine that was cut down in 2005 at Jinju, Korea. Based on micros...

BIOLOGICAL CONTROL-MICROBIALS Association of Ovavesicula popilliae (Microsporida: Ovavesiculidae) With Winter Mortality of Larvae and Reduced Fecundity of Female Japanese Beetles (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae)

Populations of Japanese beetle at sites in Michigan where Ovavesicula popilliae (Andreadis) was introduced in 1999 and 2000 were compared with nearby control sites from fall of 2005 through spring of 2008. Percent infection byO. popilliae andwinter mortality of Japanese beetle were determined by sampling larvae in October and April from 12 golf holes on six courses in southeast Michigan and eig...
